The House Momentum, a safe and supportive environment
At the shelter The House Momentum, our approach to supporting our residents is based on the Housing First principles.
We believe in prioritising rapid access to independent housing as the first step towards achieving stability and well-being. Our goal is to support our residents in the transition to their own home, and we know that this transition can be challenging.
We value close and trusting relationships between our residents and our housing support workers.
We believe that this relationship is essential for our housing support to contribute to our residents maintaining their own housing. Through an attentive and understanding approach, we create a safe and supportive environment where our residents can feel seen, heard and supported in their transition to their own home.
Our work with the Housing First approach and the emphasis on close relationships is an integrated part of our services at the shelter MomentumKBH. We are committed to ensuring that our residents receive the best possible support and guidance so they can achieve stability, well-being and independence in their own home.
At the shelter MomentumKBH, we have a clear goal: to support our residents in achieving stability in their own home as quickly as possible. We believe in an individual approach that begins with a thorough assessment of the resident’s current situation and needs.
How we work with our residents
Identifying strengths and resources: We begin by identifying our resident’s strengths and resources, which form the foundation for their future goals.
Addressing challenges: We also identify any challenges our residents are facing and develop realistic and achievable goals, taking into account their wishes, needs and psychosocial condition.
Concrete and detailed goals: We develop specific and detailed goals for our residents and describe how these are to be achieved. We also offer relevant activities and support measures to help them reach their goals.
Plan for greater independence: We also develop a plan for our resident’s greater independence and self-sufficiency, including plans for education, employment and housing.
When it comes to following up on set goals and documenting goal achievement, we follow a careful procedure:
We maintain a close and ongoing dialogue with our residents to evaluate their progress and ensure that the goals are realistic and achievable.
We continuously adjust the goals in accordance with any changes in our resident’s situation.
We document the process by creating an individual plan for each resident, describing the goals and the activities that will help them achieve them.
We regularly keep records of our residents’ progress and assessments of their well-being and psychosocial condition.
We hold regular meetings with our residents and/or their networks to inform them of their progress and ensure their active participation in their life situation.
Overall, our approach to following up on goals and documenting goal achievement is designed to ensure that our residents receive the best possible support and guidance on their path towards stability and independence. We work purposefully with residents’:
- Goals
- Wishes
- Dreams
Trust is absolutely essential in the transition to independent housing and life. At the shelter The House Momentum, we actively prioritise building trust and security in our support for residents. We understand that trust is the key to ensuring that our residents feel comfortable and supported during the transition process. We know that trust in our housing support workers is essential for our residents to choose to accept and participate in aftercare, where the housing support is provided as CTI under the Housing First methods.
Therefore, we place great emphasis on establishing and maintaining a strong and trusting personal relationship between our residents and our staff. Our staff are dedicated to listening to, understanding and supporting our residents on their individual journey towards stability and independence. At the same time, we also work to build trust in the organisation we represent. We want our residents to feel safe and secure in their collaboration with us as representatives of the municipality or the shelter. We strive for transparency, honesty and reliability in our communication and actions to ensure that our residents have trust in us and our support programmes.
Through a focus on trust and security, we create an environment where our residents feel seen, heard and respected. We believe that this trusting relationship is essential for our residents’ success in the transition to their own home and life, and we are firmly committed to continuing to strengthen this relationship in our work at The House Momentum.
Methods and professional approaches
At The House Momentum, we prioritise a professional approach to our work with vulnerable residents who are facing challenges in the transition to independent housing. Our approach is characterised by several important principles, which we believe are essential for creating meaningful and sustainable outcomes.
Professional approach: We base our work on a solid professional approach that is informed by evidence-based methods and best practice. We understand the importance of applying documented methods and approaches that are tailored to our residents’ individual needs and circumstances.
Appreciative approach: We meet our residents with recognition, respect and empathy. We believe in acknowledging our residents’ strengths and resources as well as their personal goals and wishes. By focusing on the positive and strengthening our residents’ self-perception, we create an environment where they feel seen, heard and valued.
Empowerment approach: We strive to empower our residents to take control of their own lives and make informed decisions. We believe in giving our residents the necessary knowledge, skills and support to achieve their personal goals and feel confident and self-sufficient.
Narrative approach: We also value the narrative approach, which recognises the importance of our residents’ personal stories and life histories. By listening to and understanding our residents’ unique narratives, we can better tailor our support and guidance to their individual needs and wishes.
When it comes to our methods, we use a range of evidence-based approaches and tools to support our residents effectively.
Motivational Interviewing (MI): We integrate principles from Motivational Interviewing (MI) into our approach to support our residents in exploring and strengthening their motivation for change. By applying MI techniques, we can help our residents identify their own goals, values and motivation for creating positive changes in their lives.
Social skills training: We also offer social skills training to our residents to strengthen their ability to communicate effectively, handle conflicts and build healthy relationships. Through practical training and guidance, our residents can develop the necessary skills to achieve success in their social and personal lives. Overall, our approach and methods are designed to support our residents in a holistic and resource-oriented way. We believe in creating a supportive and trusting environment where our residents can achieve stability, well-being and independence in their lives outside the framework of the shelter.
